“เล่ออี้” มาจากชื่อเดิมของสถาบัน 乐意语言文化中心 (Learning East Chinese Education Center) ซึ่งก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 2008 เพื่อส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้ภาษาจีนและวัฒนธรรมจีน

คำว่า 乐意 (Lèyì) มีความหมายว่า “ยินดี เต็มใจ หรือทำด้วยความรักและความสมัครใจ”

สำหรับเรา ความหมายของคำนี้ไม่ได้จำกัดอยู่เพียงการเรียนรู้ภาษา แต่เป็นทัศนคติในการใช้ชีวิตและการทำงานศิลปะ

การเรียนรู้ที่แท้จริงเกิดขึ้นเมื่อเราพร้อมเปิดใจรับฟังผู้อื่น การสร้างสรรค์เกิดขึ้นจากความเต็มใจที่จะทดลอง เปลี่ยนแปลง และเติบโตไปพร้อมกับผู้คนรอบตัว

“เล่ออี้” จึงเป็นทั้งชื่อของสถานที่ และวิธีคิดที่เชื่อว่าความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีเริ่มต้นจากความยินดีที่จะเรียนรู้ซึ่งกันและกัน

The name LEYI originates from the former 乐意语言文化中心 (Learning East Chinese Education Center), established in 2008 to promote the study of Chinese language and culture.

The Chinese phrase 乐意 (Lèyì) can be translated as “willing,” “gladly,” or “with wholehearted intention.”

For us, the meaning of this word extends far beyond language learning. It represents an approach to life and artistic practice.

We believe that meaningful learning begins with a willingness to listen to others. Creativity grows from a willingness to experiment, embrace change, and evolve alongside the people around us.

LEYI is therefore not only the name of a place, but also a way of thinking—one grounded in the belief that meaningful relationships begin with a genuine willingness to learn from one another.

LEYI House believes that art does not exist separately from communities, but grows through listening, participation, and shared learning.

We are interested in long-term collaborations with people in the local area, using art as a process to create dialogue, open spaces for diverse stories to be heard, and build shared meanings through people’s experiences.

บ้านเล่ออี้ ตั้งอยู่ในจังหวัดเชียงราย เมืองที่เป็นจุดบรรจบของผู้คน ภาษา และวัฒนธรรมจากหลากหลายภูมิภาค ทั้งล้านนา กลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ และชุมชนชาวจีนโพ้นทะเล

LEYI House is located in Chiang Rai, a city where people, languages, and cultures from diverse regions come together, including Lanna communities, ethnic groups, and overseas Chinese communities.

This diversity makes Chiang Rai an important place for exploring the relationships between human migration, collective memories, cultures, and the formation of contemporary identities.
