The Soul of Two Homes
Le Gong Gao de Phraeris · Phrae
Phrae-Baan-Baan 2026: The Soul of Two Homes is a contemporary art project that brings together 13 Thai and international artists and creative practitioners to stay and work with local communities, exploring the memories, roots, and relationships between Phrae’s “two homes.” The first is the Karen community forest in Wang Chin District, a source of water and a vital ecosystem that sustains life. The second is the historic wooden architecture of Mueang Phrae, reflecting the city’s history and long-standing craftsmanship.
The project is divided into two parts: “Mai-Malai” at Mae Phung Luang, Wang Chin District, presenting environmental art made from wood scraps and discarded materials through collaboration with the Karen community in the forest; and “Hom Lom Mueang” in the old town of Mueang Phrae, presenting soft sculptures made from cotton and natural indigo dye, installed to embrace and care for historic wooden buildings. Paradee Sattarujawong is one of the artists contributing to this section with her work “Interwoven”.
2026: The Soul of Two Homes
Exhibited Work
Interwoven (โยงใย), 2026, Mixed media, 1.6 × 2.8 m
Interwoven explores the meaning of “home” through experiences of travel, migration, and living across different places. Created through collage, the work brings together paper, fabric, and discarded materials from Phrae—including cotton thread, bamboo strips, saa paper, and naturally dyed textiles—while preserving their original traces, such as creases, tears, and cut edges.
Each piece is then stitched, joined, layered, and rearranged according to its own character, allowing the materials to shape the direction of the work. As these fragments come together, new meanings gradually emerge, reflecting memories of place, personal experiences, and an understanding of “home” as something that continually takes shape and changes through movement, lived experience, and relationships with the people and places around us.

After the Exhibition
After the Phrae-Baan-Baan 2026 exhibition, Interwoven was gifted to Le Gong Gao de Phraeris, where it remains on display and is preserved as part of the space. This reflects the artist’s intention for Interwoven to remain alive and connected to a place that has been part of the work’s creative process.
