Three Realms: The Universe of Buddhist Art was held at the Buddhist Art Pavilion at Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai as part of the international contemporary art festival Thailand Biennale Chiang Rai 2023 “Open World.” Launched on December 9, 2023, the festival brought together Chiang Rai’s history, places, and local culture with the contemporary art world through works by artists from Thailand and around the globe, presented at venues across the province.

The festival featured 10 main exhibition venues, 2 special event sites in Mueang Chiang Rai, and 8 additional exhibition sites in Chiang Saen district. It also included 13 Art Pavilions, showcasing works by artists from around the world in a variety of forms and offering visitors the opportunity to experience contemporary art while discovering the character and cultural heritage of Chiang Rai.

The Buddhist Art Pavilion brought together works by lecturers, and participants in the short-term Buddhist Art program at Mae Fah Luang University. The exhibition explored Buddhist art through a range of perspectives and creative approaches, reinterpreting Buddhist ideas and aesthetics through contemporary artistic practices.
