In Process ·
First Solo Exhibition by Paradee Sattarujawong
17 May – 30 June 2026
Sriwiang Gallery · Bangkok
“In Process” traces Paradee Sattarujawong’s three-year journey of learning, transition, and growth, following her move from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, where she began developing her artistic practice.
The works reflect her experiences, beliefs, and exploration of the inner world through drawing, painting, and experiments with Chinese ink and Chinese characters. The exhibition invites viewers to become “fellow travellers,” discovering meanings that gradually unfold through their own experiences and interpretations.

“Often, a journey begins with a destination in mind. Sometimes, it begins by listening to your own voice.
Paradee Sattarujawong decided to step away from her former life,
leaving her work as a Chinese language teacher to move to Chiang Rai and study art.The exhibition In Process documents this period of transition—a time of learning, trial and error, and inner growth through artistic experimentation. Imperfection, decisions, and traces of time are all recorded within the works.
The exhibition is like a resting place along the way, inviting viewers to pause and listen to their own needs for a moment. Perhaps, in doing so, we may discover that we, too, are all somewhere along the way.”

“Along the way, there are moments when we need to be alone, and moments when we need companions. My journey into art began three years ago, in 2023, in Chiang Rai.
After living and working in Bangkok for more than 20 years as a teacher and owner of a Chinese language institute, I began a conversation with myself and felt that it was time to set out once again in search of my dreams.
Learning and developing my artistic skills became a way to find inspiration for living and creating something new. At that time, much of what I was doing had become habitual. I had neglected my own growth, and the happiness I once felt in life gradually diminished, affecting my physical health in noticeable ways.
The mountains, forests, changing seasons, and ways of life around me gave me a slower rhythm and the time to develop my artistic practice continuously.
I spent much of my time in solitude, practicing, learning, and observing myself through art. Over time, I began to connect my inner and outer worlds through several series of abstract works.
The series Form Is No Different from Emptiness explores the nature of incense smoke, formed from countless small particles that gather into a shared density, then gradually change and fade according to conditions and the passage of time. Another series, Soulitude, explores the self and the emotional responses that arise within the inner state of mind.
I chose paper and Chinese ink as my primary materials because I am drawn to a process that allows certain outcomes to emerge on their own, without the need to control every factor.
In the brief moments of painting, I began to see that paper is not merely a surface or a material, but something alive—flexible and capable of responding in many ways. Fibers from tree bark, combined to form large sheets of paper, slowly absorb the ink, allowing it to seep through and leave traces: sometimes diffusing, sometimes remaining still, sometimes flowing at different rhythms, and never entirely within my control.
Working repeatedly in this way has allowed me to perceive movement on a more subtle level. What emerges is shaped by the coexistence of material, time, and action, rather than by a fixed form or predetermined outcome. The works therefore become records of the journey, rather than conclusions.
This first solo exhibition is a resting place along the way—a first destination that offers an opportunity to meet, talk, and share stories from the path I have travelled. It brings together fragments of my artistic process, creating a space for certain things to become visible and to be experienced together.
Perhaps, along the way, we come to know ourselves a little better, and find someone who happens to be moving at the same rhythm.”
